About the Event

The renowned Mark Morris Dance Group brings to the Paramount Theater in Seattle a Nutcracker like no other! Celebrating its 28th Anniversary, The Hard Nut combines classic elements of ETA Hoffman’s beloved story and Tchaikovsky’s quintessential score performed live by a 53-piece orchestra.  But the Mark Morris’ version takes it from the straight-laced 1890s to the swinging 70s, with raucous parties, dancing G.I. Joes, whimsical costumes, and a Waltz of the Snowflakes unlike anything you’ve seen before. If you’re tired of the same Christmas tradition year in and year out, then the outrageous modern dance revamp that is Hard Nut is for you! Expect the spectacle of the Nutcracker ballet with a sprinkling of naughtiness and a whole lot of heart. On the way to this matinee performance, we’ll stop for brunch at Portage Bay Café South Lake Union. Known for their breakfast bar and local, organic, and sustainable breakfast and lunch menu items,  the Portage Bay is one of Senior Services travelers’ favorite places to enjoy a pre-theater meal. Includes transportation, admission and meal. Bus leaves Olympia at 9:00 am; Lacey at 9:30 am. Approximate return 7:00 pm. Activity Level: Easy
