Come hungry for this one as we munch our way through Lewis County! We start our day in the most logical of places: a coffee roaster. Founded in 2002, Santa Lucia Coffee is a small batch micro roaster offering only the finest, fair trade, organic beans, roasted on a unique hand built roaster. You’ll tour the roaster, try a sample and leave with your favorite coffee beverage in hand. Before your cup is empty, you’ll find yourself surrounded with a tantalizing array of pastries from Market Street Bakery. Owner/chef Eric Wearner interned at a traditional Icelandic bakery where he expanded his knowledge of pastries and Artisan bread, which we will be sampling. From there we walk one block to the Black Sheep Creamery to learn about the cheese making process and sample their hand-crafted cheeses. Feta, pecorino, adnatou, and enchante are just a few of the cheeses made by owners Brad and Meg Gregory from the milk from their flock of over a hundred ewes that graze the idyllic pastures of Adna. Ready for lunch? Next stop Joy’s Once Upon a Thyme. Joy Templeton’s passion for healthy food is contagious. We’ll sample a variety of her artisan sandwiches and other specialties. Our last stop of the day, is at Woods Bee Company where you will learn about the crucial role bees play in agriculture, the crisis they are facing and what beekeepers nationally and locally are doing to rebuild a healthy bee population. You’ll also sample several honeys and get a jar to take home. Includes transportation and all tastings.Departs OSC 7:15/LSC 7:45 am. Returns apprx. 4:30 pm.
