Applications Available in Spring 2019

The purpose of the Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is to provide seniors the opportunity to purchase fresh, nutritious, unprepared, unprocessed, locally grown fruits, vegetables, honey and fresh-cut herbs from authorized farmers market and roadside stands. Additional resources in the form of nutrition educational materials including recipes, nutrient values, food preparation and storage information are also provided. It also increases the consumption of local agricultural commodities and helps aid in the development of new farmers markets and roadside stands along with community supported agriculture programs. A list of participating farmers markets and roadside stands will be provided to each recipient of SFMNP checks.

Qualifications: Low-income seniors, age 60 or older (aged 55+ for American Indian or Alaska Native) with an income level at or below 185% of the Federal Poverty Level.

SFMNP checks will be distributed on a first-come first-serve basis. Once an application has been received (via hand delivered or mail) and screened for eligibility, the applicant will be mailed $40 in SFMNP checks to be used at participating farmers markets and roadside stands. SFMNP checks are valid June 1 through October 31st.
