Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors or in other words SHIBA. What exactly is SHIBA? SHIBA is a free, unbiased, and confidential program provided to you from the Office of the Insurance Commissioner. SHIBA is an all volunteer program that makes our home at the Olympia Senior Center. If you reside in Mason or Thurston County our volunteers can help guide you through your Medicare options. Our staff can help make sense of confusing information, potentially find ways to save you money or make more informed choices about your health care.
We were thrilled to receive a thank you note addressed to our counselor Bill. The client wrote: “Thank you so much for the help with our RX coverage. Your help was a drastically needed rescue from total confusion.” SHIBA volunteers assist thousands of individuals and their families every year. We can take the time to provide assistance to you either by phone or you can make an appointment to visit one of our counselors in the Olympia office.
We are available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Olympia Senior Center. At the Virgil Clarkson Lacey Senior Center, we are available on the 2nd and 4th Mondays from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments will gaurantee that you are able to be seen. Please call our office at 360.586.6181, ext. 134 to make your appointment today.
If you would like to volunteer for this rewarding program please contact the SHIBA help line at 1.800.562.6900 or contact Janis Rich at 360.586.6181, ext. 134.
