Bellingham and Sucia Island
July 21-22, 2018
This might be the perfect summer retreat. The first day we explore the Fairhaven District in Bellingham. We start with lunch at the Colophon Café in the heart of Fairhaven. If you’re a book worm, you’ll probably spend all your free time in Village Books, but you’d be missing out on the 19th century style that draws tourists to this Historic District. Discover specialty shops, antiques, galleries and public art. Or maybe hang out with the locals at Stones Throw Brewery. Later in the afternoon, we’ll regroup for the short ride to the Silver Reef Casino Resort. Whether you’re a gamer or not, you’ll enjoy this comfortable resort and spa. You get a discount at the restaurant of your choice for supper, plus breakfast the next morning. But the true adventure begins when we join San Juan Cruises for our fully narrated, half day cruise to intriguing Sucia Island. Uninhabited and only accessible by private vessel, cruisers consider this the “gem of the San Juan Islands.” I know you’ll agree once you’ve seen it. Sandy beaches, fascinating geology, walkable trails, and stunning views of Mt. Baker and multiple little bays make Sucia truly special. You’ll cruise out of Bellingham aboard a deluxe 50’ vessel with both indoor and outdoor seating and drink service onboard. Once on Sucia, a fresh picnic lunch awaits you, and two and half glorious hours to beachcomb or hike some of the 3 miles of trails. The trails to north hug Echo Bay, while the trail to the South are much steeper with wooded areas and panoramic views at every turn.
