Northwest History buffs will love this excursion. Did you know Tacoma is home to the BuffaloSolidersMuseum? The museum is one of only two of its kind in the country. It serves as a community resource encompassing a significant and often overlooked facet of American history -- the all-black regiment of the United States military. Through artifacts, pictures and stories, the museum provides at look into an important a piece of history that took place between 1866 and 1944 – and is all-too-often forgotten in the textbooks. In addition to the museum’s six rooms of exhibits, we’ll be treated to a short film “Held in Trust” about West Point’s first back cadet graduate.
After lunch at a South Sound Seniors’ favorite – Antique Sandwich Co – we’ll continue our history expedition at the Ft.NisquallyLivingHistoryMuseum. Our tour, specially designed for seniors, emphasizes not only the Hudson's Bay Company history and the daily lives of the Fort's historical residents, but also the ongoing restoration work on the Fort that began in the 1930s.
