The Step Into Nature series continue with our annual trip to Mt. Rainier. This year we’re going to Ohanapecosh to hike the Grove of the Patriarchs trail. This 1.5 mile roundtrip hike is easy and ostly flat. You will enjoy crossing the suspension bridge over the Ohanapecosh River to a small island of behemoth old-growth trees. It’s easy to feel tiny standing next to one of the massive Douglas-firs, hemlocks or cedars, some nearly 40 feet in diameter and more than 300 feet tall. Follow a wooden boardwalk as it loops through these ancient giants, weaving under their canopy and learning about the life of a forest with an assortment of interpretive signs. The trip includes breakfast in Morton and a leisurely picnic lunch after our hike. We will also visit the Ohanapecosh Visitor Center.
