Last year, South Sound Seniors visited houses of worship in Seattle of three of the world’s major religions – Moslem, Jewish and Christian.  This year, we continue our exploration of houses of worship. We will get a glimpse into the art and environment, customs and traditions of three more sacred spaces.

We begin at the SeattleBuddhistTemple. We’ll learn the history of their temple and information about Buddhism. Our trip to the Temple will certainly put us in the mood for an Asian cuisine lunch at the Tamarind Tree in the International District.

We then journey to St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral. St. Mark’s has a long history in Seattle – with its first worship space built in 1890. One of the highlights we’ll see is the 4000 pipe organ, one of the largest 20th century organs. Our last stop is St. George Byzantine Catholic Church in Yelm. The community belongs to the Byzantine Rite, one of the twenty-two Eastern Rites of the Catholic Church and is the site of stunning icons.
